About Matt
Born and raised in Rowan County, Matthew Leatherman uses his expertise in finance and budgeting not to advance himself, but to benefit the common good.
A public financing and budgeting expert, Matt worked closely with NC State Treasurer Janet Cowell to find innovative solutions for expanding health care access in rural areas, initiate conversations about municipal resilience, and implement a long-term stewardship policy for the roughly $100 billion in assets managed by the Treasurer’s office.
More recently, he worked with a non-profit organization committed to retirement security. Pension investors who manage hundreds of billions of dollars have relied on Matt’s writings on risk management and investment contracting.
